Tuscia is part of the territory of Lazio which covers a great part of the province of Viterbo, and it comes from the ancient southern Etruria.
Tuscia is certainly a Etruscan land, but also a land of diverse landscapes and tourist opportunities. It is the ideal destination for a growing number of tourists with its cultural program including many festivals and events, and with its traditional food and wine and with its beauty and variety of landscapes.
From the Specchio del Lago farm you can easily reach Lake Bolsena following an old path which links the two. Easily reachable are also Montefiascone, Marta, Capodimonte, Bolsena, Gradoli, and Viterbo with its fascinating medieval history and the famous festival of saint rosa. Also close are the mountains of Viterbo (cimini) and lake Vico, known for its production of hazelnuts, chestnuts and mushrooms.
For those who wish to plan a trip to the beach the Tyrrhenian coast in just over half an hour away by car. Going west you can reach the Natural Reserve of the Lamone, a few kilometers on you can find Saturnia (known for its spas), the Maremma, with the necropolis of Tarquinia and Vulci and you can you discover the archaeological museums of the area.
An archaeological tour in Tuscia must include the area of Sutri, with its Mitreo (a Roman amphitheater) and the many Etruscan necropolis. You shouldn’t miss the necropolis also found in the protected area of the Park of Marturanum.
Lake Bolsena is also ideal for a sporty holiday were you can enjoy surfing, sailing, canoeing, fishing and other water sports. Around the lake there are many beautiful paths that will take you through the main villages, for the most active of people there is a path of approximately 60 km which runs all around the lake.
A short distance from the farm there is a horse riding school that can offer you the possibility of long and relaxing rides at great prices.
And after a long day you can enjoy a soak in the hot springs of Viterbo. You can choose between private luxury spas, or take advantage of the free pools of sulphurous spring water, in any case relaxation and comfort is guaranteed.
Near Montefiascone, Ferento, which is located on the north of the Lazio region, between the cities of Viterbo and Bagnoregio and the Bolsena lake and the Tevere river.
In ancient times, Ferento was known as 'the splendid town.' Situated near the Tiber valley, this small Roman municipium flourished in the early Roman period. In the Middle Ages, Ferento was a flourishing town; in 1172 it was razed to the ground after a war against Viterbo, and the town was sadly abandoned.
Among the most interesting things to be seen at Ferento are a Roman theatre, the Roman baths and the remains of the old Ferentiense road.
